Every year in September, the Smithsonian magazine hosts a free Museum Day with museums across the country. This includes house museums as well. All you have to do is request a ticket, which is good for two participants, and it will be emailed to you. Print it out and get entrance to whatever museum you choose to visit!
Here are the participating museums in metro Atlanta:
Archibald Smith Plantation Home, Roswell
Autrey Mill Nature Preserve and Heritage Center, Johns Creek
Barrington Hall, Roswell
Booth Western Art Museum, Cartersville
Bulloch Hall, Roswell
Center for Puppetry Arts, Atlanta
David J. Sencer CDC Museum, Atlanta, which is free every day.
Visit the Free Museum Day website to look for other museums in Georgia and all over the country and for more information on these.. Last year, we visited the Center for Puppetry Arts; this year we hope to go to the Booth Western Art Museum. It's a great opportunity to share a fun experience and learn some new things, too.
