Visit Britain's gardens - what a "Brilliant" idea (Photos)

Early next month, Philadelphia offers city residents and those from out of town the chance to visit the U.K. There’s no need to go through customs, take a flight, or find a rental car. Stay stateside and make a note on your calendar to check out the Philadelphia Flower Show between Saturday, March 2nd and Sunday, March 10th. The theme “Brilliant” will showcase the landscape, personality, history and customs of the British Isles.

Smell the roses around the Royal Palace gates, sip on English tea, walk among Shakespeare-inspired gardens, or get caught in the fog over the English moors. You can do all of these things and plenty more at this year’s show.

Unlike previous years, the 2013 Philadelphia Flower Show will span two entire weekends, allowing visitors an additional day to sample the delights of the English countryside, see floral interpretations of Royal jewels, and join the audience to listen to a presentation by a gardening expert. Learn how to grow a garden you can cook, or listen to the manager of the Royal gardens. You can even preview the show before the masses arrive.

Brides and your bridal parties, look out for the evening event, Wedding Wednesday on March 6th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Local event planning experts will be offering tips on how to plan and enjoy your special day from start to finish.

Make and take home a craft, savor a beer outside an English pub, or visit the deep bunkers and undulating fairway of a Scottish coastal (links) golf course.

Held since 1829, the Philadelphia Flower Show is one of Philadelphia’s finest and most eagerly awaited annual shows. It never ceases to introduce innovative gardening ideas, inspire creative minds and encourage new flower fans. Its widespread appeal makes it an event that draws crowds from all ages and walks of life.

Treat yourself to a little bit of England next week, while Philadelphia hosts a celebration of English gardens and British traditions. It could give you some “Brilliant” ideas for your own plot.
