When someone mentions the word "joy" we think of blissful moments of laughter and contentment. You know those times when we feel lighter than a feather and filled with glee. These memories are like treasures and they mean more to us than all of the money in the world. Everyone has experiences like this and they are truly special!
Well, Jesus came down from heaven, a glorious place of bliss. John 3: 12-14 says : "If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things"?No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man".
The Bible says "Jesus stripped himself of all kingly authority and took on the form of a servant" to save us from our sins (Phil 2:7). Now let's get back to the word "joy", the Bible says that for the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.(Hebrews 12:2). It brought Jesus joy to know that multitudes of people would be saved from eternal damnation and now instead gain eternal life because Jesus sacrificed himself upon the cross. And it was that very thought that he fixed his eyes upon while dying on the cross.
What a beautiful word joy is! Jesus said "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love."These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full."This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. (John 15:10-12) What we need to realize here is that Jesus is commanding us to love one another and this sums up all of the commandments : A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another (John 13-34). God is love! Jesus went to the cross to demonstrate God love toward us.
Can you imagine what is must have been like when Jesus was in heaven? It is truly beyond the capability of our human minds to comprehend such a thing. The apostle Paul caught a glimpse of heaven and was truly unable to describe it ( 2nd Corinthians 12). The point to all of this is that God desires for us to have joy on earth and a future joy that will be unlike anything on this earth! Everyone's life has ups and downs but Jesus is there with you every step of the way! As Christians we look upward waiting for that wonderful reunion with Jesus.
In God we move and have our being (Acts 17:28)! This means that he lives in us every single day! As born-again Christians the kingdom of heaven is actually within us? Why? Because God's wonderful Holy Spirit now lives within us to empower us and strengthen us everyday!
If you feel down and that your Joy is lacking turn to God today and he will give you a Joy that goes beyond all understanding. God bless you!
