“Your best year ever will not happen by accident.” – Pastor Danny Anderson, Emmanuel Church of Greenwood
Every martial artist knows this fact of life and lives their life by the truth behind these words. Martial artists develop a vision of what they wish to accomplish and then execute on that plan. They understand the power of vision. It is in the motivation from their vision and their proper planning that martial artists find success.
Vision is one of the most powerful capabilities of the human mind. Vision allows us to see our goals, imagine our lives improved, and find motivation from within to reach those goals. Nothing gets your mind focused on your daily tasks better than knowing how they fit into the vision you have for your life. When you have a vision passion will replace apathy, focus will replace “busy-ness”, and encouragement replaces depression. When you have vision for your future you have a source of inner strength that can make your plans become your reality.
In 2012 NY Resolutions, a martial artist’s plan the concept of developing a plan of action that has only positive actions as the goals was discussed as critical to success. A special acronym was also presented to help you set your goals in a manner that promotes success. However, just setting positive goals is not enough; your planmust be ready.
A plan is nothing more than a series of choices that you have made ahead of time. When you explore each of your major goals you will find that they are made up of two things. First, they are made up of smaller “sign post” goals. These “sign post” goals help you see your progress and areas of your overall goal that require more effort. Larger goals like New Year’s Resolutions are also made up of a series ofcritical choices, places in time where a good choice will push you towards your goal and a poor choice will hold you back. By exploring your goals ahead of time you can look for these critical decision points and make up your mind how you will respond before the pressure or temptation can cause you to make a poor decision. Don't let those "accidental decisions" hold you back, make those critical decisions before the situation arises.
It is not too late! 2012 is still a “young year”, we all have plenty of time to make it our best year ever!
Develop a Vision of where you want to be -> Set Positive Action Goals -> Plan your critical decisions -> Work the plan!
