Visine poisoning of a woman: Will this start a wave of copy-cats?

A man was arrested after allegedly poisoning his girlfriend with Visine Eye Drops. Who know this product acted like a poisoning agent when ingested? Now that it's headline news, chances are some copy-cats out there will give it a try. According to ABC News on March 9, 2013, Shayne Carpenter admitted to his friends in a text message that he had put drops of Visine in his girlfriend's drink.

The girlfriend wasn't feeling well and she got suspicious after reading the text messages that her boyfriend sent to his friends. He was talking about a “prank” gone wrong. He also wrote “if she's going to be talking crap, then she's going to be crapping.” This put a red flag up for the girlfriend, who then called the police.

The police had Carpenter's girlfriend talk to him on the phone about the alleged poisoning as part of the investigation. This is when he admitted to the girlfriend what he had done with the Visine. This admission got him arrested. He was released on a $25,000 bond.

The girlfriend was treated and released from an area hospital. Police did not release her name. Now that this is all over the news, chances are copy-cats will come out of the woodwork to try this on their arch-enemies. The sad part about reporting news like this is that Visine was thought by many to be nothing but a harmless eye solution. Apparently it has ingredients that could render someone ill.
