Virtue and Moir win Olympic silver in ice dance

According to the Sochi 2014 website, on Monday Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue have won Canada's 15th medal at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Moir and Virtue, who are both from London, Ontario, recorded 190.99 points to claim the silver medal. Their 114.66 points set a world record for a long program performance, but it was broken later in the long program by the American gold medalists Charlie White and Meryl Davis who had 116.63 points in the free dance and 195.52 points overall.

There are some questions how Davis and White beat Virtue and Moir by 4.53 points. For many the point separation between the two figure skaters was not that high.

Davis and White meanwhile become the first American figure skaters in the history of the Olympic Winter Games to win gold in ice dance. There is also some speculation that this will be Davis and White's and Virtue and Moir's final competition of their careers. Both teams may not compete at the 2014 World Figure Skating Championships in Saitama, Japan.

Team Canada has now won four gold medals, seven silver medals and four bronze medals and are fifth in the overall medal standings.
