Virtual vanity is not only acceptable, it is absolutely necessary.  Here are some quick tips from Google Bomb book as well as helpful hints from my own experiences.

Steps to protect your virtual presence:

•Sign up for branding services such as Naymz, Ziggs, LookUpPage, LinkedIn
•Blog - Create Blogs keep them up to date and full of valuable content of your interests. Keep it clean.
•Sign up for Google Alerts and BackType - know immediately when posts are using your name.
•Create your own website with your name - Buy the URL and a build a user friendly website. Cost effective. (Example www.suescheff.com)
