Many parents want their teenagers to do more reading. Virtual, online book clubs may be a way to get some teenagers interested in books or book discussions and the Greenville County Library offers several options for teens to connect and engage in book discussions via internet connection.
Book clubs for teens online
"Virtual book clubs can engage students in independent reading by giving them opportunities to stay connected beyond the classroom," writes middle school teacher, Ryan Kinser in an article from Education Week. Some book publishing companies are taking note and offering virtual book clubs that allow teens to connect to books in ways that they connect to friends. In April of 2011, Scholastic book publishers launched "this is teen," a smart phone & Facebook focused book club for teens.
