As predicted by Red Statements last week, Virginia is the next battlefield in gun confiscation. On Monday, the McAuliffe campaign updated their website to include a pledge from McAuliffe to bring Colorado style gun control to Virginia. His plans include background checks on private sales of firearms, which will end those sales entirely including gun shows, smaller magazines and a limit of one gun a month can be purchased.
Background checks at gun shows would be impossible to do and it allows the government to limit your ability to buy a gun. A gun owner would then need permission from the government every time he wants to buy or sell a gun.
Reduced magazine sizes swing the advantage to the illegal gun owner who will not find themselves bound by the new law.
Limiting legal gun sales to any one customer to one will also limit legal gun owners but it will leave illegal gun owners to buy as many as they want.
In Colorado, the new laws were so unpopular, republicans were able to recall two state senators, including the president of the senate, John Morse.
McAuliffe currently leads the polls in Virginia by 5 points. The libertarian candidate could be the spoiler, tracking at 10%.
