Late Friday night, police were able to identify the shooter at Virginia Tech. Ross Truett Ashley, 22 has been identified as the shooter. Ashley attended Radford University which is close to Virginia Tech.
Virginia State Police investigators are still processing evidence and trying to determine what happened. The picture is slowly being put together piece by piece. What the police do know is:
Ashley stole a 2011 Mercedes SUV at gunpoint on Wednesday
Ashley shot and killed campus police officer Deriek Crouse, 39 while he sat in his car
Ashley fled the scene, changed his clothing and later shot and killed himself as police were getting closer
Ashley lived with his family in Paltrow, Virginia. Police have yet to determine whether or not he knew Crouse or if he had any ties to Virginia Tech. According to investigators, they are still trying to figure out what, and why the tragedy occurred.
