Ever wonder how those actors beat each other senseless night after night and never seem to show their scars? The fighting you see looks real, but it’s an illusion. Those actors have been trained to create that illusion of violence so that the audience believes it to be real. What is really happening is that the actors have been trained to repeat those actions safely in a choreographed manner performance after performance.
Virginia Stage Combat School focuses on providing Richmond area actors and directors with the training to safely execute those maneuvers on stage. Instructors Aaron Orensky and Emily Turner have years of acting and stage combat training and will teach actors everything from the simple stumble to the aggressive slap and even advanced swordplay.
Training at VSCS is grounded in both historical research and martial theory. Orensky and Turner understand that the most effective stage fights are the ones that are believable.
VSCS will begin a new round of classes on Saturday, October 19th at Ginter Park Baptist located at 1202 Wilmington Avenue.
