Adam Battles of the 800 block of Little Dean Circle in Newport News was charged with two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty on Wednesday for repeatedly slamming a dog into a fence.
According to wvec.com, on Sept. 20, a neighbor called authorities when he heard someone screaming and also witnessed Battles, 35, slamming something into the fence.
When police arrived at Battles' girlfriend's home at the 100 block of Yeardley Drive, authorities found an injured chihuahua. The girlfriend was at work when the incident happened. When taken to the veterinarian, the dog was diagnosed with a broken leg.
Authorities continue to draw a close correlation between animal cruelty and abusive behavior towards humans. Treating animals cruelly is rarely an isolated incident. Report all crimes of animal abuse; it is important to protect all members of our communities.
