Virginia man arrested for shooting two dogs who had slipped from yard

Two Siberian huskies dug out from beneath the fence that surrounded their Powhatan County, Va., yard, and days later, their bodies were discovered not far from their home.

According to Wednesday's WTVR News, the Powhatan Sheriff’s Office has arrested and charged Louis Nigro, Jr., with two counts felony animal cruelty for the dogs' deaths.

The huskies, Jethro and Abby, had escaped from their yard in January.

Their owner, Patrick Obradovic, quickly created "Lost Dog" fliers, and offered a reward for their safe return.

Unfortunately, there would be no happy homecoming for the beautiful dogs who had escaped from their yard; both dogs were found shot to death five days after they had disappeared.

Owner, Patrick Obradovic, told WTVR News:

“They met a violent end for no reason,”

“It would be easier to deal with if they had been hit by a car by accident, but this was a deliberate act.”

Louis Nigro, Jr. was arrested, and later released on a $10,000 unsecured bond. He is due in court on Feb. 15.
