Virginia Dems warn: Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin will take control over Virginia

Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin apparently live rent-free in the heads of some Democrats.

According to a recent mailer sent out by the Virginia Democratic Party, Rush Limbaugh, Rick Perry, Sarah Palin and Ken Cuccinelli want "total control" of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

"They want total control over Virginia," the mailer screams, adding, "Vote Tuesday November 8th to stop them!"

The message, although ridiculous, could not be more clear - if Virginia Democrats do not vote this Tuesday, Virginia will be controlled by Rush Limbaugh, Rick Perry, Sarah Palin and Ken Cuccinelli, the current Attorney General of Virginia.

"If only, guys, if only," writes National Review's Jim Geraghty.

He adds:

Notice the nonsensical combination: a governor of another state running as a presidential candidate, the current state attorney general, a radio talk-show host, and a former governor of another state who has announced she’s not running for president. Only one of them even lives in the commonwealth, and he’s already in a powerful state office, so it’s not quite clear why he would be joining the Perry-Limbaugh-Palin insurrection against Bob McDonnell, a governor whom he agrees with much of the time.

"Oh, what’s that? I shouldn’t look for logic or coherence in Democratic-party mailings? Yeah, I guess you’re right," Geraghty concludes.

Ray Hartwell of the Washington Times writes that Virginia Democrats have been engaging in a campaign of "slime over substance."

Last week, I received on my iPhone an unsolicited blast email from the Democratic Party of Virginia. It was illuminating in a number of respects, not only about the approaching state and local elections in Virginia but also about the sort of campaign tactics we’ll see more and more from the Democrats heading into 2012.

The message opened by telling me that the “smell of desperation is in the air,” that “Virginia Republicans know they can’t win on the issues” and are “trying to scare, intimidate or confuse voters.” As a concerned Virginia citizen and voter, I naturally went to the website of the Virginia Republican Party to see for myself what scary and confusing material was lurking there, ready to deceive and deter voters. Right away, I found straightforward statements of the party’s “values and principles,” including such radical proposals as “lower taxes,” “less and smaller government” and “personal responsibility.”
According to Hartwell, Democrats have been running a campaign designed to smear Republicans as "radical right-wingers," which would explain their use of Limbaugh and Palin - two of the most hated conservatives on the planet.  Apparently, Democrats have yet to realize that neither Limbaugh nor Palin are running for anything.

Hartwell adds that the Virginia campaign is a preview of what Democrats intend to do in 2012.  He writes:
Whatever else it might be, the unsolicited email I received from the Democratic Party of Virginia is a leading indicator for the 2012 campaign. Because they cannot run and win on the Obama administration’s record, Democrats can be expected to double down on personal attacks and class warfare and to continue their avoidance of substantive discussion of the important issues facing both Virginia and the nation. They will rely on accusation and on division. Their president has launched a campaign along these lines already, and unfortunately, this strategy will be aided and abetted by many in the media.
He concludes by writing that "voters will have to get involved, pay attention and insist that the candidates focus on substance and not on slogans."

They can start by realizing that neither Limbaugh nor Palin are on the ballot, despite what Virginia Democrats claim.
