If you are looking for a new thought church or an open spiritual community in the cities of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Hampton and Newport News, here are a few places to explore.

The Fellowship of The Inner Light has Joy in Worship non-denominational services on Sundays.   They also host a variety of on-going groups and special programs, including healers from around the world. 

The Heritage Center holds a weekly Sunday event called “Church of the Rude Awakening."  See their calendar of events for lots of other happenings to tickle your spirit.

Two local Unity churches offer up progressive Christianity, plus other spiritual-based programs.  The Unity of Tidewater is near the Bayside section of Virginia Beach and Unity Renaissance Spiritual Life Center is in the Greenbrier section of Chesapeake.  Unity Renaissance offers a book store and a good number of additional programs for the entire family.

The Unitarian Church of Norfolk  has historically had awesome music.  It is in a beautiful stone church on the water in the Ghent section of Norfolk.  The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Peninsula is across the water in Newport News with a lively and diverse membership.   The Unitarian Universalists are known for welcoming all religions.  These groups also welcome people of all demographics. 

Speaking of welcoming, the New Life Metropolitan Community Church has an active outreach and ministry to and by the LGBT community. 

The Memorial Spiritualist Church in Norfolk holds regular psychic fairs and message circles.  Healing and messages from spirit (Spiritualism) are part of their regular services. 

Also Christian based, but open to the inner guidance is the unprogrammed, mostly silent meeting of the Society of Friends, also known as Quakers.   The local meeting also has an associated progressive private school.

For something completely different,  Soka Gakkai International – USA is an American Buddhist movement that promotes peace and individual happiness based on the philosophy and practice of  Nichiren Buddhism.  The group chanting will open your chakras and bring enlightenment.  The local gathering information is here.
