Virgin America announced Tuesday that it will begin service to Austin and Anchorage later this year.
The service to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) starts on May 21 and will consist of a single daily nonstop roundtrip flight from San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Austin passengers will be able to connect to other Virgin America destinations, including Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Seattle.
“Austin and the San Francisco Bay Area share deep business ties, especially our world-class innovation and tech sectors," said Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell in a statement. "In order to facilitate tourism and subsequently keep Austin the thriving city we’re so proud of, I’ve been stressing for some time that we need more nonstop flights in and out of our airport. I am pleased to see that Virgin America is adding a nonstop flight to and from the great city of San Francisco.
Virgin America also announced that it will offer seasonal service from SFO to Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) from June 6 to Sep. 9. The service consists of six nonstop roundtrip flights a week. Anchorage passengers will be able to connect to other Virgin America destinations, including Chicago, Las Vegas and Philadelphia.

This additional connectivity will undoubtedly bring economic growth by stimulating both tourism and business travel.”
“Austin and Anchorage present unique opportunities for us to expand our network into areas that demand and deserve increased flight options,” said Virgin America President and CEO David Cush. “Austin and San Francisco share strong cultural and business links, and the addition of Anchorage will allow us to offer seasonal service to one of the most popular outdoor destinations from our home in San Francisco."
The flight to Austin departs SFO at 10:15 a.m. and arrives at 3:35 p.m. The return flight departs AUS at 5 p.m. and arrives at 7 p.m.
The flight to Anchorage departs SFO (daily except Tuesday) at 8 p.m. and arrives at 11:55 p.m. The return flight departs ANC (daily except Wednesday) at 12:50 a.m. and arrives at 6:25 a.m.
