Neighbors of a Rochester man alleged to be abusing his dog have tried to help the German shepherd for the past year, but to no avail. As a last resort, posting a video to Facebook showing the man spraying the dog with a hose and then beating the defenseless animal with a rake, has gone viral, according to a 13Wham.com. report on Monday evening.
The video was sent to the Humane Society of Greater Rochester at Lollypop Farm on Monday, after racking up thousands of indignant remarks and comments about the abuse being inflicted upon the dog named Princess and the lack of legal intervention.
Two videos showing abusive behavior towards the dog are currently available for viewing via a petition on Change.org which encourages the Humane Society of Greater Rochester at Lollypop Farm to investigate the atrocities the dog believed to be named Princess has been forced to endure.
Please be warned the videos are extremely graphic and may not be suitable for all viewing audiences.
Investigator Reno DiDomenico, director of the organization assures the public there is an investigation currently going on. The owner of the dog has thus far been uncooperative.
"We are aware of the video of a German Shepherd in Rochester being sprayed by a hose and hit with a rake. Please know our Law Enforcement officers are actively investigating by collecting witness statements and gathering evidence. If anyone has firsthand knowledge of the person in the video we encourage you to contact our Law Enforcement team at (585) 223-6500.
As with any ongoing criminal investigation, please understand that not all information can be made public at this time. Doing so can jeopardize the case. We appreciate and understand your concern, and ask you to be patient as we handle the situation in a legal manner. Thank you."
In an interview with 13Wham.com, neighbor Lori Berri stated she and several other neighbors have called in the past about the situation, and everyone involved in trying to help the dog felt terrible when they heard the dog crying and nothing was being done.
Berri stated before she uploaded the video, Princess had been shot with a paintball gun and was covered in red splotches.
New York State laws treat dogs as property, and in order to seize Princess, authorities must obtain a warrant. Until then, authorities want to hear from anyone who has personal knowledge of this situation happening on Resolute Street. Please call (585) 223-6500.
Congratulations to everyone involved who have been fighting for Princess' right to live a happy and humane life. Let's hope she is removed from the alleged abusive situation soon.
According to Lori Berri:
“It's just like a child abused; they are part of your family, abuse is abuse and that dog is a good dog...“That dog does need to be removed. They don't deserve to have that dog. That dog is too good for that home and they should never have animals again”
