Frankly, I am tired of the “cupcake” bakery on every corner. Since the inception of Sprinkles in Beverly Hills, the first cupcake bakery, others have followed in owner Candace Nelson’s footsteps although today some are finding it difficult to stay afloat. Sprinkles has recently ventured into ice cream whereas some of the cupcake bakeries only specialize in cupcakes. I think in this ever-changing market of bakeries one must always seize the next opportunity.
In the last three months I have tried many cupcake bakeries in the San Gabriel Valley and only one stands out in my mind. Every time you walk into Violet's Cakes in Pasadena not only do you see more than three people feverishly working, but the consistency of the cupcake always remains the same – moist cake, delicious frosting, and the flavor profile is always prominent.
The day I ventured into Violet's it was a Saturday morning and a choice of Key Lime spoke my name so I grabbed that one and picked up a Monkey’s Delight – a nice and hearty banana cupcake; banana cake, banana pudding and cream cheese frosting. Although they were both very good – the Key Lime – was my favorite – anything citrus is always my first choice and this cupcake did not disappoint!
Violet's serves also Gluten Free and Vegan which is very important in the industry to offer choices to consumers. They also have specialized cakes and on Friday and Saturday you can pick up some cookies as well.
Violet's offers two locations – one in Valencia and of course, the Pasadena location. The Pasadena location is at 21 East Holly Street, Pasadena, CA 91103, phone: 626-395-9821, or contact them at email@example.com. Hours are Monday – Friday 10 a.m – 6 p.m or Sunday 10 a.m – 4 p.m.
