Hundreds of downed trees and power lines, multiple homes and cars damaged, several overturned semis on the highways of Utah, numerous school and business closures, states of emergencies declared for several communities including Los Angeles, CA, and hundreds of thousands left powerless was the resultant of powerful winds tore across several western states including California, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Arizona on Thursday. The storm was the worst in recent memories as was a result of a very tight pressure gradient between two pressure systems. There were several locations that recorded wind gust over 110 mph. The highest was a 167 mph wind gust recorded in Henniger Flats, a mountainous area in California. Below is a listing of the top wind gust recorded:
- 167 mph - Henniger Flats, CA (2,800ft above sea level)
- 150 mph - Mammoth Mountain, CA (11,000ft)
- 123 mph - Springboat Springs Ski Resort, CO
- 98 mph - Kane Springs, NV
- 77 mph - Neihart, MT
- 75 mph - Meeteetse, WY
- 72 mph - Sandia Park, NM
