Is anywhere safe anymore these days?
If you travel on the Philadelphia or surrounding Manayunk/Norristown lines, data is now available that can alert you if your regional rail stop has a high volume of violent crimes committed within approximately a one-block radius of the station.
The highest areas with violent crimes committed in Philadelphia from 2007 through October 2013 were at the North Philadelphia, Market East, and Suburban Station stops.
The Manayunk/Norristown line has had 52 violent crimes occur near Manayunk Station, 17 near Wissahickon, and 1 near Ivy Ridge since 2007.
Homicides, robberies, assaults and rapes are all considered violent crimes. Area residents and Philly singles traveling solo should be especially aware of their surroundings and take preventive steps to assure safety at all times. Be alert for suspicious activity or persons and curb the urge to use your cell phone when traveling in a known violent crime area.
There is really no way to know when a violent or other type of crime will occur and where. Take precautions, trust your intuition, and be careful where ever and whenever you are out and about.
