Vintage Rolls-Royce races Nurburgring

Racing around Nurburgring is tough enough in a full blown race car, let alone tackling it with a land beast such as a Rolls-Royce from the 1970's. These things weren't cars, they are hotel resorts on wheels! The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was a luxury car produced in Great Britain between the years of 1950 and 1980. The Silver Shadow was the first Rolls-Royce to make use of a monocoque chassis, which is a fancy term for using the exterior structure as main support for the vehicle instead of a standard frame. It might not be the fastest around the track, but compared to the following Nurburgring footage it really doesn't do that bad!

More Nurburgring fun!

Surprisingly enough, the technology of the Silver Shadow didn't stop at the chassis. Independent rear suspension, disc brakes, and a massive 172 horsepower 6.2 liter V8 engine to push this turd down the road combined with the highest production numbers out of all Rolls-Royce vehicles make the Silver Shadow a favorite of both modern collectors and people trying to fake the funk by sporting that ever loved Rolls-Royce hood ornament.

While watching the following video, try to remember that this is a Rolls-Royce, and not a sports car. I find it to be a technological marvel that a vehicle of such mass could handle so well as to actually zip through the corners of Nurburgring. Ever changing turn cambers, misleading straights, and traffic all play into the Nurburgring driving experience. This track isn't for the weak at heart, this track is for the avid adrenaline junky! If you can't get your buzz here, you need to move on to space rockets because this is as good as it gets for automobiles.
