Recently, Vince Gill took a few minutes before a benefit concert to talk about songwriting. This wasn’t just any concert, however. It was a night billed as All for the Hall, a fundraiser for Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame. On this night an eclectic group --including Emmylou Harris, Jason Mraz, Heart and actress/songwriter Rita Wilson (That’s Mrs. Hanks to you, mister!) -- gathered for a relatively formal ‘guitar pull.’ More relaxed guitar pulls are common in Nashville, where songwriters gather together and share their latest musical creations.

What can be said about Gill that hasn’t already been said? He’s a master guitarist, a singer with the purest high vocal range and a songwriter with many hits to his credit. It’s only fitting Gill was supporting the recently released Bakersfield, his collaboration with steel guitar player Paul Franklin, as this album is his tribute to two country music hall of famers, Merle Haggard and Buck Owens. Please click here to read Gill’s thoughts about these two icons, as well as other songwriting-related topics.
