Vin Diesel raises environmental awareness and plants a tree for Groot

According to Comic Book Movie on Saturday, actor of James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy's" Vin Diesel, gave way to issuing a Plant A Tree For Groot Challenge prior to his ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. He decided to ante up this cause to have it be followed by another vital to the Earth's environment. Some may question that it would be wasting water to partake in such a cause, even if the intentions are good and especially with a serious drought situation happening in California. On the upside, Diesel decided to create a cause to give back to the environment.

So it seems Diesel put a little spin on the challenge by issuing a different trend setting situation. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was originally issued by director of "Guardians of the Galaxy's" James Gunn and then Diesel issued his challenge to Michelle Obama, Angelina Jolie and "Putin."

This isn't the first time such a public service announcement has been rendered to plant a tree. A long time ago singer John Denver was in league with The National Arbor Day Foundation as he created the "Plant A Tree" song. With an environmental crisis already a major issue when it comes to deforestation, hopefully Diesel's trendsetting of planting a tree for Groot could catch on.

For those unfamiliar with Groot, he's a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy team of members that saved Xandar from the evil clutches of Ronan the Accuser. He had regenerative abilities and is the beloved character of Gunn's film that values his own friends and family. The character is rather the personification of "going green."
