Vin Diesel: Actor back for 'Riddick 3'

Following 2000's "Pitch Black" and 2004's "The Chronicles of Riddick," "Fast & Furious" star Vin Diesel plans to take a third turn as his "Riddick" character this fall, according to a Feb. 22 Entertainment Tonight report. The actor recently teased fans with a new photo of his "Riddick" character sitting on a throne.

He posted the shot to his Facebook page with the accompanying caption, “It has been 9 years since "The Chronicles of Riddick" was released... all along I knew I would eventually have to return to that dark place, the mind of an Alpha Furyan...”

Titled "Riddick," the new movie will be released in theaters and IMAX in September.

According to Comingsoon.net, in the new movie, “the infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless.” Entertainment Tonight adds that the intriguing plot features a more “pared-down film in which [the] anti-hero finds himself up against an alien set of predators. Activating an emergency beacon, he catches the attention of two passing ships – one carrying a new breed of mercenary, and the other captained by a man from Riddick's past.”

The movie will be directed by David Twohy and co-produced by Diesel. The cast includes Karl Urban, Katee Sackhoff, Bokeem Woodbine, Dave Bautista, Jordi Molla and Matt Nable.

Comingsoon.net adds that the cast also includes Conrad Pla, Raoul Trujillo, Nolan Funk and Keri Hilson.
