Viktoria Plzen from the Czech Republic shocked SSC Napoli from Italy in the first leg of a UEFA Europa League playoff game. The game was played in Italy on Thursday with a surprising score of 3-0 in favor of the Czech team.
Viktoria has been shocking throughout the Europa League tournament by taking first place in their group before entering into the playoffs. They were very commanding in the group as they had defeated the defending champions of the tournament from Spain, Atletico Madrid.
In this match, Napoli who played at home was the favorite since they are playing superbly in Serie A and are currently holding the second spot in the Italian league.
ESPN reported that the Italian club team had also started with their main XI, including new comer from Portugal Rolando. Marek Hamsik was, however, on the bench.
Once Viktoria took the lead, Napoli responded by subbing in the Serbian striker Hamsik for defender Alessandro Gamberini. The offensive move failed for Napoli as Viktoria managed to take apart the Napoli defense and scored two more goals.
Napoli has to win at Viktoria’s stadium for the second leg by scoring at least three goals in order to continue in the tournament. It’s going to be a tough one for the Azzurri!
