Vikings considering Manti Te'o in draft

The Vikings are currently shorthanded at the linebacker position. They know this is a position that has to be addressed. They have lost Jasper Brinkley to free agency and have not replaced him at this time.

"We know we have to get one. That's no secret," Singletary said on April 7, 2013. "When we do, we just have to teach him as much as we can, as fast as we can. It's going to be a lot of work."

Singletary is the Vikings' linebackers coach, and he will be the one responsible for getting these players up to snuff and ready for the NFL. The position in questions, middle linebacker, is one he is very familiar with and requires much more than just athletic ability. The middle linebacker is responsible for defensive calls and assignments in the huddle. The player needs to be a leader on the field without questions. Frazier knows they need to have an impact player at this position

"I'd like to believe there's going to be one there for us," Frazier said. "There's some good players at the linebacker spot, and we have a need to improve our depth and find a middle linebacker. Hopefully, we'll get the right guy."

The draft needs to be deep for the Vikings. They have the 23rd and 25th overall pick this year.

"Fortunately, this a good year to draft one," Singletary said. "The kid at Kansas State, Arthur Brown, the kid at Notre Dame (Manti Te'o), the kid at LSU (Kevin Minter), Ogletree, there are a few guys that have good quality. It just depends on how it shakes out."

If the Vikings are truly serious about considering Te'o, they will have to deal with a lot of baggage to come along with it. Unless you have been living under a rock, you may know Te'o from the fake dead girlfriend fiasco that he went through. One thing is true about the NFL, if you can perform and win you will be forgiven.
