Wow, you want to talk christening parties…check out Viking Longships 24-hour marathon event, which encompassed christening nine longships in Amsterdam, four in Rostock, Germany, and three in Avignon.
Although I’m sure this was major headache for their party-planner, they scored a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ as ‘The Most Ships Inaugurated in One Day by One Company surpassing their previous record, having christened 10 new Viking ships in one day in 2013.
If you didn’t receive an invite, no worries, there’s still time to join in tomorrow’s ceremony, when two more new Viking river vessels are being christened in Porto Portugal.
“River cruising is the fastest-growing segment of travel, and it is in large part because of the enthusiasm of our guests and travel trade partners that we have enjoyed such success,”said Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking Cruises.
Although I won’t make it to any of the christenings, I’m still super excited since a girlfriend and I will be joining Viking in Avignon later this year, for their Portraits of Southern France river cruise- where for eight glorious days I’ll be surrounded by gorgeous French countryside, stopping along the way for guided city walks, UNESCO site explorations, a visit to the Papal Palace in Avignon, while happily sampling Burgundy’s exquisite varietals paired with world-renown cuisine in Lyon.
Does anyone know how to say “diet” in French?
Since debuting in 2012, Viking Longships have amassed a long list of prestigious awards. They recently topped Condé Nast Traveler’s annual readers’ Cruise Poll for best river cruise ships – with Viking Odin specifically being named the #1 top-ranking river cruise ship – and the entire class of vessels was named “Best New River Ships of 2012” in Cruise Critic’s® Editors’ Picks Awards.
