Vigo County high schools achieve graduations rates above Indiana average

Vigo County schools have a 92.2% graduation rate, according to a press conference the corporation held Monday afternoon. The average graduation rate for Indiana high schools is 87.9%

School board member Jackie Lower stated that state determined the graduation rates, and that the Vigo County School Corporation did not generate these numbers. Other members provided additional commentary at the school at their Monday night meeting. Mel Burks, school board member and CEO of Hamilton Center, credited what he called the education triangle. The education triangle requires the efforts of parents, teachers, and educators working together.

John Hillenbrand, head of the Vigo County Taxpayer's Association, praised the corporation's success in graduating students.

Lower also announced that 3 members of the school board received awards Certification Awards Program. Paul Lockhart, Alpa Pater, and Tom Thomas received awards from the CAP. Recipients must show leadership, a willingness to work with the schools and students, and have a high attendance rate at school board meetings. Lockhart received the master level award. Pater and Thomas received level 3 awards.
