Don't miss an opportunity to view the amazing structures in the 2013 Canstruction ® event at Orlando Fashion Square Mall. The completed structures are currently on display for the week-long exhibition for public viewing.
Canstruction is a design/build competition where local corporations, school groups and community groups form teams that include at least one architect and then design a structure to be constructed of canned and packaged food obtained through donations. The current count of food items for this year's event is 28,880 items.
The annual event takes place around the world and Orlando is just one of many cities where Canstruction events occur. Supported by the Society for Design Administration and the American Institute of Architects, this year's competition included twelve groups:
- BHM Architecture
- Borelli & Partners, Inc.
- Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
- Walt Disney World Design and Engineering
- Girl Scout Troop 506
- HHCP Architects
- HKS Architects Inc.
- Cuhaci & Peterson
- Hunton Brady Architects & DPR
- PDK Group
- Lake Brantley Interact Club
- Winter Park Construction
A panel of distinguished judges from the community selects winning structures in five categories: Best Meal, Structural Ingenuity, Best Use of Labels, Juror's Favorite and two Honorable Mentions. At the end of the week, October 27, 2013, the structures will be dismantled and the food donated to Second Harvest Food Bank for distribution to people in need.
