Smartphones nowadays are used for just about everything besides just making phone calls. You can play games, watch movies, track your spending, organize meetings and so much more. Some apps even allow you to make money from them. While that does sound like a great idea, sometimes money making apps are full of spam ads, viruses and a ridiculously high threshold to pay out. Not to mention that you have to actually open the app to use it.
Not Locket. In an interview with Anthony Hwang, from Locket app, Locket is an all new app that allows you to make money just by checking your locked screen. No app to go into, no spammy ads to watch. Think about it. How many times a day do we wake up our phone and swipe it to use it? At least a hundred times if not more. So with Locket, when you're ready to wake up your phone, a magazine style ad will be waiting for you. Just imagine it like your screen saver with an ad. All you do is then is either engage the ad shown by swiping left to see more which could be taking you to the retailer’s landing page or a short video or a coupon offer. If you decide to continue waking up your phone the ad will just go away. Either way you make money. For every new and unique ad you see on your screen you make.1 cent off of it. Not a whole lot, but not points either that you have to convert into a prize either. Once you have reached the $10 minimum threshold you can request payment as long as you have a valid US Paypal account, request a gift card or you can choose to donate your earnings to the Free Arts program that has partnered with Locket to create Locket Cares a program to help children recover from their experiences of abuse, neglect, poverty and homelessness through innovative creative arts programs.
Bet you're wondering now what kind of ads are you going to be subjected to? According to Mr. Hwang, Locket uses magazine style retail ads to grab your attention like ZipCar, Gatorade, Amazon and even Victoria's Secret that not only show you a particular ad but also have offers and deals for finding out more about the ad. It's super easy to use and whether or not you engage the app, you'll still make money. It won't overload your phone with a bombardment of ads either, just one at a time for you to check out.
If you're concerned about the app constantly playing in the background and running down your battery, there's no need to worry there either! The Locket app only runs when you wake up your phone, therefore it doesn't minimize your battery or data usage. As of now, Locket is running series of ads of about 10 0r 12 at a time and they are constantly updating their ads to bring consumers more of what they like which will eventually lead into more targeted ads to view. The creators of Locket app also respect the privacy of its users so no information is being sold to other companies and is why you won't find ads that are provocative in nature like questionable dating sites, retail stores selling unethical products and such.
Locket was created by three men in their mid 20s from NY and was officially launched in July 2013 and so far has seen over 100,000 downloads with 10,000 downloads on their first day. Currently Locket is only available for download on Android phones.
