Winter weather snow storm hits the East Coast. The National Weather Service has winter storm warnings in effect for East Coast metropolitan areas including Washington DC, Baltimore, and areas of Pennsylvania. In Washington DC 10-20 inches of snow is expected. The state of Virginia declared a state of emergency Friday as a winter storm dumped snow across the state and is expected to continue throughout the weekend.
In Maryland, salt is being sprayed onto highways and roads before the storm begins in order to keep snow from sticking. Several counties in North Carolina have reported more than 170 car accidents.
A winter snow storm is forecasted from Richmond, Virginia, to Fredericksville, Pennsylvania, leaving interstates 95, 81, 64 and possibly 80 covered in snow, CNN meteorologist Chad Meyers said. Meyers recommends that if you live along the east coast that you stay home this weekend if at all possible.
Several East Coast areas are anticipating some of the highest snowfall accumulations ever, if the storm remains on its current course. Throughout the east coast, the National Weather Service is reporting that some areas may get 20 inches, while areas only 50 miles away will not get any snow.
