The first major winter storm arrived in Utah and Colorado overnight and dropped up to 3 feet of snow in some areas with winds up to 90 mph, causing car accidents and road closures.
The storm moved from Northern California and Nevada earlier in the day on Monday before it moved into Utah and Colorado late Monday. Parts of I-70 were shut down, and drivers were warned to away. Monday, Salt Lake City traveling down to St. George were warned to delay the trip for at least 24 hours.
The winter storm headed toward the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest on Tuesday with blowing, drifting snow, and should be in the Midwest by Tuesday night, then move on Great Lakes, and then the Northeast.
Chicago had snow and sleet Tuesday morning, which delayed flights at O'Hare Airport by two hours, and affected airports around the country.
Kansas City, Missouri had snow, freezing rain, and sleet that will continue throughout the day, while overnight temperatures will dip down to 15 degrees.
