Video: Watch five scenes from the film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's 'The Road'

The film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's 2006 novel, The Road, is making the screening rounds circuit this week. After what has seemed like an interminably long wait, we can finally get a look at Viggo Mortenson, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Charlize Theron in action in these five newly released clips from the film. Take a look.

I can't imagine a better actor for the father than Viggo Mortenson. When I first heard The Road was being made into a film, I was anything but optimistic -- "Not ANOTHER great book made into a lukewarm and slightly awful movie?!" -- until I heard that Mr. Mortenson was stepping into the lead role. These clips justify my faith in him: his facial expressions, his body language, the tone of his voice, all express the father's fierce love and protectiveness over his son perfectly.

The Road is scheduled for release on October 16th. Read more about the filming of The Road and what director John Hillcoat had to say about the actors in tomorrow's Book Examiner installment, Labor Day lit fun. I felt the exact way!! After reading The Road 3 times i felt it was more guided towards a video game type movie that would end up skewing the points brought up by by Mr. McCarthy, but i feel safe in knowing they will likely stick to the philosophy of the material rather than glamourize the content.
