This week the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads back to the track where the season began, Daytona International Speedway site of Saturday nights Coke Zero 400.
Unlike February, the summer temperatures will provide an entirely different race than February. Drivers expect the track to be much slicker and handling to be at a premium. This Saturday will also mark the final time NASCAR races on the old Daytona surface. After an embarrassing delay in the Daytona 500 after part of the pavement came up, the track will be repaved starting Monday.
"This weekend, we're going to try to take advantage of the old pavement, enjoy it as much as we can, and slip and slide around here like we normally do in July," said six time Daytona winner Jeff Gordon. "Handling was important here in February, so it should be real important this weekend with the higher track temperatures. The spoiler adds a little drag, but the bigger plate should make up for it."
