It's clear that actor Vin Diesel has a love affair with music. His YouTube video showing him dancing and singing to Beyonce’s “Drunk In Love” and Katy Perry’s “Dark House” went viral months ago, and now the 47-year-old actor is at it again. This time he is tackling one this summer’s most popular songs from the soulful Sam Smith. On Wednesday, the “Fast & Furious” star covered Smith’s “Stay With Me” and quickly made it clear as to why he made the correct career choice in sticking with acting.
Diesel showed off his musical voice while promoting his new movie “Guardians of the Galaxy” in an interview with Capital FM. In the interview he was asked to sing the British singer’s emotional ballad. Without hesitation he belted out the lyrics while unsuccessfully mimicking Smith’s falsetto. Diesel’s deep baritone voice didn’t quite match Smith’s, but the 22-year-old U.K. singer was still flattered and delighted by the performance.
On Wednesday morning, Smith tweeted,
Vin Diesel just covered Stay With Me. Surreal. Thanks man haha.”
Then he told Capital FM:
First of all I thought it was going to be good, but when I heard it it’s the most hilarious thing I’ve heard in my life. It’s amazing. Brilliant. The falsetto!”
The flattery didn’t end there. Smith then talked about how much of a fan he was of Vin Diesel when he was growing up and even offered to do a duet. He continued
It’s so weird for me because I remember watching ‘XXX’ when I was like eleven years old! I definitely think we should do a duet one day, it would be amazing.”
Along with his musical performances of songs by Beyonce and Katy Perry, Diesel has also previously covered “Stay” by Rihanna. So it looks as though Smith is in some very good company.
