After BYU beat Utah in over-time Saturday night 26-23, Max Hall’s post game comments were the center of attention. Not of course, the game or the final touchdown that won the game. But Max Hall’s post game comments.
Max Hall said, "A little bit, yeah. I don't like Utah. In fact, I hate them. I hate everything about them. I hate their program, I hate their fans, I hate everything."
"So it felt really good to send those guys home," Max Hall continued. "They didn't deserve it. It was our turn, and our turn to win. We deserved it. We played as hard as we could tonight. And it felt really good, again, to send them home, to get them out of here, and so it is a game I will always remember."
Max Hall continued, "I think the whole university, their fans and their organization is classless. They threw beer on my family and stuff last year, and they did a whole bunch of nasty things, and I don't respect them, and they deserved to lose." See the video below of the statement Max Hall made.
The comments speak for themselves and show the character (or lack of however you see it) of Max Hall. If Utah didn’t deserve to win, then how did they score 17 points in the fourth quarter of the game and force it into over-time? It seems that was because BYU made mistake after mistake in the fourth quarter of the game.
CBS sports put it ever so eloquently: “Max Hall has no class”

It would have been nice if he hadn't said them, but that doesn't make them not true. My experience with Utah fans (especially anywhere outside of Cougar Stadium) has been nothing short of painful ... a root canal is more pleasant than most of the Utah fans I've ever dealt with when this discussion comes to BYU as
an institution or as an athletic organization. There are a few exceptions, but they are just that (in my experience) ... few.
Look, we haven't been in Max's shoes nor experienced what his family has had to experience. We were not down on that field and did not hear what was said or experience the actions of his opponents during the heat of competition. Bottom line is - I don't fault Max for stating what he believes, even though I wish he hadn't. But, I support his right to state those opinions, and support him accordingly.
Max hall better watch his back!!!
I think that what Hall said about Utah was uncalled for. It's humiliating to have someone say something like that and make our school look bad. That is not how we all feel. I think that the UofU is a great school and this rivalry is out of control. It's one thing to be a sore loser, but to be a sore winner is just ridiculous.
'Cause that's what Jesus would do!
would you do the same if someone threw beer on your family?. .thats uncalled for
wow this comming from a returned missionary? what does that college/religion stand for? and the fact the he said numerous curse words on live television F*** was just one of them... max hall threw all the standerds of the university/religion.. way to go. max your obviously more classy then us!!
I used to be a BYU fan, but I will no longer root for them in any sport...thanks Max Hall for being such a class act. And that is coming from a "real" good mormon.
If I am not mistaken, BYU offered Kyle Whittingham the job of coaching that sorry excuse of sportsmanship they call Max Hall. It also makes me sad to say that Maxxi called his current and former prophet "classless" as they are both UofU alumni. BYU may be the churches school, but the U is the school of the prophets.
Max shouldn't have said what everyone already knows. It makes BYU look more like Utah. BYU players are held to a higher standard and they should be. If a Ute player said that, big deal. Utes are already expected to be somewhat trashy, drunk, and stupid. We're talking about two completely different teams and fan bases. Classless is pretty accurate. Marci Stone on the other hand is not.
I never saw so many people being so passionate about 2 really bad teams. Honestly, I couldn't say which team is worst. You guys should just merge BYU and Utah and make one big bad team of utards.
Being a Utah fan I have to say that what Max said wasn't very diplomatic, but honestly its a rivalry! Mud gets thrown! Get over it and don't generalize Max's actions as what a "real" mormon does. We'll have a dumb fan or player say something dumb too! It's all part of being rivals!
"Throwing beer" is just a little thing the drunken students did. If you've ever been to the utes stadium with a BYU shirt on, then you have probably experienced that, its not uncommen... I would expect them to do that to max..i'd probably throw stuff at Jordan Wynn. And there is no simbalism in the beer, that is just somethin that most ute students have on hand.... its when they throw it at his mother and sister, and do the other things that you can read about but i'd rather not mention on here... Thats where i'd draw the line. Talk smac to the players. But seriously, I don't blame Max one bit for saying what he did when they did what they did to his family.
well i think that its pathetic what he said and how later he had to tell he meant to say that to a certan group oh yeah way to go little late for that one hall. im a utah fan and how pathetic he was to say that. ok yeah some ute fan spilled beer and whatever else to his fam. but so did byu fans to utah coach wife and plus someone smacked her in the face and was disrespectfull. hope byu gets killed in whatever bowl they go to
So what's the problem? He doesn't like Utah, big deal. tons of people dont like BYU. He has a right to his feelings regardless of what people think.
What's sad is that people are making this a religious issue. I'm not biased either way - what's disappointing is that in accepting his position, Max Hall has accepted the role of a public figure and role model. Regardless of what happened to his family, he let down those who look up to him by stooping down to that same level.
Who won? Who cares?
