Police shot and killed Maurice Clemmons on Tuesday, in connection with the 4 Lakewood police officers that were shot execution style on Sunday. Two people, Eddie Davis and Douglas Davis were charged with a felony for rendering criminal assistance in court on Tuesday. Authorities believe they assisted the alleged gunman. A third person who has not been identified is believed to have driven the getaway car is also expected to be charged and is currently being held pending investigation.
Maurice Clemmons, 37 allegedly walked into a coffee shop outside Tacoma, Washington at 8:00 am on Sunday morning, and shot four Lakewood police officers execution style. The four Lakewood police officers were in the coffee shop before their shift going over case files and paperwork, when Maurice Clemmons allegedly came in and shot them. No one else inside the coffee shop was injured.
The search for Clemmons was part of a two-day manhunt from Tacoma to Seattle, Washington.
There are additional people who have been accused of providing help to Clemmons including medical aid, housing, giving him a cell phone and money, and tried to help him get out of the state, and local authorities said that those people will also be charged.
Clemmons had a criminal history in Arkansas and Washington, and was granted clemency by Arkansas Governor Huckabee in May of 2000. See video below for more about that story.
Huckabee made a statement that read, "I take full responsibility for my actions of nine years ago." "I acted on the facts presented to me in 2000. If I could have possibly known what Clemmons would do nine years later, I obviously would have made a different decision. But if the same file was presented to me today, I would have likely made the same decision."
