Video: Trista Joy Lathern lied about having breast cancer to raise money for breast implants

Trista Joy Lathern lied about having breast cancer so she could raise money from her community, and then used the money to get her breast implants enlarged, according to local authorities in Texas.

Trista Joy Lathern raised $10,000 at a benefit for her breast cancer, and she shaved her head to get sympathy and look like a chemotherapy patient. Lathern told authorities that she wanted the breast implants to save her marriage of seven months. Lathern was charged with theft by deception.

A flyer advertized that Lathern had breast cancer and had lost her insurance and that an all day benefit was planned. More than 100 people and a local radio station showed up at a one day event and paid $10 each and made donations to help her. Over $10,000 was raised and $6,800 was the cost of breast implants.

The Today Show ran a story on Trista Joy Lathern Friday morning, and one of the questions asked was if the judge could order her to have the implants removed.  They were unable to get the question answered, but it is an interesting question.

Earlier this year in Utah, Kari Ferrell, 22 lived in Utah when she wrote $60,000 in bad checks, scammed people out of money saying that she had cancer, and was wanted for fraud and theft. She even went so far as to have photos of herself taken in the hospital. She left for NYC and repeated her behavior, and has not been seen since. For more on this story, click here.
