Toyota sales fell 47% from December after recall announcment. Toyota sales fell 16% from one year ago in January, according to Edmonds.com. Toyota was estimated to drop 12% year-over-year. The drop in sales came immediately after Toyota announced a recall in early January.
Other car manufacturer’s reported increase over last January numbers, and may fall short from December sales numbers, according to CNN Money. Ford Motor had a 24% increase in sales from one year ago. See the video below for an interview with Toyota president about the recalls.
CNN reported that 19 people have died from problems with the Toyota floor mat and gas pedal problems. In January, Toyota recalled three million Toyota vehicles because the gas pedal problems caused sudden, uncontrolled acceleration that would end in a crash.
During the time that Toyota was trying to figure out what to do with the gas pedal problem, they suspended sales and production of eight models.

The problems with Toyota and the recalls over the past few months creates an opportunity for other dealerships. "Every dog has his day," said Jerry Seiner who owns several General Motors dealerships in Salt Lake City. "Maybe they'll take a second look at us instead of Toyota...when Toyota stumbles it's our opportunity."
