Glenn Beck continues the Van Jones attacks.
Glenn Beck today continued to paint Van Jones as a radical using a scattering of video clips he selectively edits. To his credit Glenn Beck now at least is using more recent quotes from Van Jones as these clips come from March of 2009. Glenn Beck's full segment can be seen below.
The Glenn Beck loyalists will likely not believe me but I listened to all of Beck's segment with an "open mind" as many have advocated I do. At the end of the segment I still felt Beck was misleading us on Van Jones for the following reasons.
First, Beck still has yet to provide any evidence of Van Jones acting like a radical, or a communist, or a wealth redistributer in his official role as green jobs adviser. Beck can not even come up with one decision or quote from Van Jones in his official role which suggests Van Jones is bent on implementing a communist agenda.
Secondly, Beck still has not responded to many of the significant arguments from the "liberal bloggers" who have defended Van Jones. Significantly, Beck never addresses the quotes from Van Jones that he is not about wealth distribution but instead advocates creating new wealth through entrepreneurship and innovation. New wealth by entrepreneurship and innovation means capitalism to me.
Third, as Beck states himself this video of Van Jones has been available to everyone for months now yet Glenn Beck is the only one who seems to think these statements are so radical. Republican Congressmen are certainly no fan of Van Jones yet they never considered these statements so radical as to attack Van Jones with them.
Fourth, someone needs to explain to me what is radical about the Van Jones statements in the clip. Beck attempts to make the statements more scary and radical by conveniently inserting a Jeremiah Wright clip, but look more closely and judge how radical these positions really are.
(1) We need to not only come up with clean energy solutions but also need to deal with water consumption, pollution, species extinction, and the way we treat each other. I personally think that dealing with pollution and species extinction is important. Beck extends Van Jones "treat each other" statement to mean reparations but that is a remote connection at best.
(2) Van Jones says Native American land should not be taken away from them now that they own much of the renewable resources. What a radical idea that we should stop stealing from Native Americans when we find something we like on their land! The fact is American history is filled with instances of Native Americans being given land through treaties only to have land taken away from them once the white population wanted something from the land. Van Jones contention that we should now give Native Americans their due for what is on their land does not seem radical at all to me. Instead Van Jones statement seems just.
(3) Finally Beck also presents as radical Van Jones statement that whites are essentially poisoning immigrant labor and minorities. I will grant that on its face the argument seems absurd, but look more closely at the evidence. Pesticides applied to crops does in fact have adverse health consequences on migrant labor. As Americans have effectively "insourced" farm labor to immigrant workers these toxins have a disparate impact on immigrants and minorities. In addition, as environmental groups regulate pollution out of wealthy suburban areas the pollution tends to simply be moved to poorer, minority dominated areas. What Beck neglects to mentions is that Van Jones is actually criticizing LIBERAL environmentalist who effectively move pollution from white areas to minority areas with their regulations. How is Van Jones acting on behalf of the radical left while also condemning them?
Finally, Beck says President Obama did not campaign on changing the whole system. Really? I may have missed something but it seems that "change" was the theme of the Obama campaign. Obama was open about wanting to raise taxes on the rich and transform the energy system toward renewables during his campaign. Beck like many others simply seems upset that his side lost the last election.

If you are so bent in either direction, why not contact Glenn Beck directly and debate him on his show, or on another medium. I personally am all for the truth, whatever that may be. By the way, I also agree with you on at least half of what you say, I watch both CNN and Fox to get alternative views. Both have their agendas and that much is evident. I look forward to your knowledge coming out.
You underestimate Beck's audience and the core values of most common sense thinking Americans. Van Jones, whether he be black or white isn't the issue here. He is not talking like a proud American - he is talking as a socialist! The next couple of elections have already been decided - that's not a threat, a promise because of Obama's deception.
Rayguns: Ha! I will actually do what you request but I do not expect Beck to even read my mail. I will be the first to admit he is a huge commentator with a following of millions. I am relatively bread crumbs to his buffet. So I would not be shocked at all if he ignored me, but I will keep you updated.
I have other points in your article I could debate but I'll restrict my comments to point (3). Jones' statement does not just argue that immigrants are disproportionately harmed by pesticides, he basically says it's "the white man's" fault and it's implicit in his comments that it is intentional. As for pollution, the greatest contributors are power plants, refineries, etc. located in industrial areas. These areas naturally have lower property values for residential housing and those that can afford to live elsewhere, do. Beyond that, large urban cities are more densely populated, have more vehicles, more construction, etc. than rural areas so as one might expect, they pollute more than the outlying suburbs and rural areas. Well whaddya know, urban areas also have higher concentrations of minorities and poor people too. You're right, it does sound absurd. That's because this argument IS absurd.

Obama has surrounded himself with far left radical people and the agenda is to transform America into at best a socialist nation and the worst a Marxist/Nation.Lets Wake Up America! and get our heads out of the sand before We Wake Up to a America we don't want. Interesting views, I believe you are taking a somewhat narrow view to what Beck is voicing his concern about. Van Jones is simply the current focus of what seems to be questionable people advising/surrounding the president. To me Jones' statements are pretty radical. They would appear to be veiled references to his political ideology, which certainly seem "out there". I prefer to question the greater meaning rather than accept them literally. This issue is larger than Jones or other czars/advisers; relating instead to the railroading of our founding principles.
As for why no one else is asking any questions... you've got me I'd sure like to see someone dig into the real truth. I suspect that will be a long time coming; wouldn't want to rock the boat.

I agree with your assessment of the show today. I just watched it and I almost felt like he was saying I was an idiot for not seeing how horrible he was. The 3rd point was the only one where I really saw that it was leaning towards "whites are bad." I love Glenn Beck though, I respect him and I love seeing the power and freedom of speech, I just think todays show was a little bit of a stretch. The czar part was weird too.

Mr Jones is a far left radical by most Americans' standards, if you look at all of the evidence Glenn provided; unless you just don't want to beleive it. Jones may never use those radical leanings in making job decisions, but why should we not be concerned as Americans, with such appointmens. I'm really tired of radicals trying to represent themselves as anything else. If that's what they think then they should stand by it and be honest. If they can't win us over with their logic, then they should accept it. What they do, is "play down" and lie about their realy intentions. If not, they would very rarely be elected to office or supported in high positions.

Van Jones - Said what he said, Meant what he said, and has for years and years!! Right up to just a few months ago - I don't have as much of a problem with Van Jones- as I do with the writer of this column!! At least Jones is an honest to goodness Commie pinko- without apology, but the writer purports to tell us that he (Jones) does not mean what he says so clearly and openly!! Why??? Great article...I don't know how anyone can watch Beck without their IQ dropping 50 points in the process. This half wit changes his own story so much he doesn't even know where he stands. Of course, what do you expect from someone that barely got out of high school. And I love all these communist and socialist comments, of course most of the people can't even properly define them. Oh, and of course loved the statement about Reagan bringing down the Soviet Union..you may need to go read some more also. Democratic Socialist countries have been around for a long time, and are still going strong. I guess after having a 12 year old for a president for 8 years, people are scared to grow up and progress.
