Video, Steve Lott discusses Mike Tyson with 78SportsTV

Steve Lott, former Mike Tyson handler, opens up to 78SportsTV about his time with Tyson. In this very candid interview, watch video above, Lott explains how he and Tyson initially bonded, with Tyson sleeping on his couch while in New York City in-between fights for a hand exam.

He then discusses Tyson's transformation from sports superstar to disgraced villain. Lott claims Tyson's downfall started in the summer of 1988 after his very public split from then wife, Robin Givens. After Tyson split with Givens, Lott suggests that breakup opened the door for Don King to come along and steal Tyson's money.

From that point, Lott says, "Every possible thing that could go wrong, went wrong."

Mike Tyson went from sports hero with major endorsement deals from Nintendo, New York City Police Department, Pepsi, Kodak and others to social outcast after losing to Buster Douglas, being convicted of rape and biting Evander Holyfield's ear.

Lott does take partial blame for Tyson's downfall, insinuating he could have done more to lift his spirits after his breakup with Givens. Instead, it was King that sunk his claws into Tyson, coercing him to split with the team he came into boxing with.
