Video: Stephen Colbert takes on Glenn Beck's gold crush

Last night Stephen Colbert gave his own take on the recent controversy involving Glenn Beck's promotion of gold on his television show.  Beck has been accused of a conflict of interest in persuading his viewers to buy gold while not disclosing his significant sponsorship from Goldline

The segment also points out how Glenn Beck is not the only conservative promoting gold.  As Colbert puts it, "conservative talk and gold go together like Obama and a Hitler mustache"  However Beck has earned a reputation as the leading proponent of gold through numerous promotions in commercials and on his show.

While bringing out the humor in the story Colbert also manages to capture some of the more complicated details of the story involving Beck including:

(1)  Beck's disclosure of his Goldline sponsorship is obvious in commercials on the radio but not so obvious on his television show where Beck never makes such blatant disclosures.

(2)  Retailers like Goldline generally sell their gold products at a 30-35% markup from the price at which they bought it.  Therefore the value of the gold would have to increase dramatically from the price at purchase just for the customer to break even.

In the end Colbert sells jokingly attempts to sell his own gold along with women and sheep in the case of economic collapse.  Mocking Beck Colbert then tells his audience to "pray on it, like we're preying on you."

Gee, Rob, not much of a sense of humor. Why doesn't that surprise me? Oh yeah, because people who watch Glenn Beck daily and Fox News only are heartless, humorless thugs.

    Happy Holidays!

Who really gives a s.h.i.t what Steven Colbert say. Nobody but a bunch of dope smoking reds actually watch the man. The man (if you can call Colbert that)is so desparate for rating he has to use Glenn Beck's name just to get people to watch his bull s.h.i.t!!!

You know they're getting desperate for something to discredit Beck with, when they have a 'daily' series on his evil advocating that people purchase gold....

Stephen Colbert is the man. He's got a point, the conservatives do like to screw ya. Selling gold they bought from you for 30 to 35% markup, does amount to screwing you. lol.. "Well nation, my decision is made. You make up your mind, better yet, pray on it, while we prey on you." Awesome. So true. Glen Beck isn't news. And neither is Faux, neither is Rush Limbaugh lol. It's so funny because they have Fox40 news where i'm from, and they constantly remind us that they are not related, or affiliated with FOX News because they know all they spew is BS.
