Video: Stephen Colbert covers Glenn Beck's loss of sponsors and reveals Beck's contradictions

Stephen Colbert was ruthless in covering the "truthiness" of Glenn Beck

Stephen Colbert does a great bit on Glenn Beck's recent loss of advertising sponsors.  More revealing however is Colbert's analysis of how Beck attempts to pretend not to be extreme when in fact Beck spends most of his program advocating extremist viewpoints.

For example, Colbert plays the clip of Beck in which Beck claims President Obama has a "deep seeded hatred for white people" only to a minute later say "I am not saying that he doesn't like white people."  Then Beck says in the same interview "this guy is, I believe, a racist."  This is classic example of Beck trying to get away with radical beliefs by disavowing them for two minutes then continueing to spell them out for the next thirty minutes of his show. In this clip Colbert also demonstrates how Beck uses this practice in talking about Nazi eugenics and health care reform.

Watch the clip below and provide your own comments on Beck's coverage.  Some of the more enterntaining quotes from the clip are found below as well.

Now the problem is too many people only focus on the first half of what Glenn Beck says; not the second half where he immediately disavows the first half, or maybe they're confused by the third half where he repeats the first half."

And yes you can have three halves, except in a society where government has death panels for fractions."

Sargento cheese you should hire Glenn Beck as a spokesan with a new slogan : 'Sargento cheese, beloved by crackers!'

Both Colbert and Stewart did a great job of dismantling Beck last night. It was a great way to end TDS/TCR week of shows.

I think Beck is right on with his commentary on Obama-and the only reason sponsors is because high level people at the Appollo Alliance sent out tons of petitions to Becks sponsors-forcing them to leave Beck-bottom line is Beck's ratings are through the roof-He is uncovering the truth and the Libs are afraid-so they are trying to destroy him-I hate to break it to you-but it is not going to work-you cannot argue against the truth!!!

    Hey Craig,

Shut your filthy gob. I'd respond to the specifics of your comment, but there are none. Learn to argue substantively.

    Great story dood!
Beck is a big meanie that needs to be silenced with hippie boycotts, as turning the channel just won't do for those of us that own Cold-War era Russian TV's with only one channel.
There can only be liberal opinions voiced now that we have King Obama, the transparent, bi-partisan change-bringer.
All conservatives must be silenced and squashed.
I get all my REAL comedy-news from Jon Stewart and Steph Colbert, Family Guy cartoons, or MSDNC's Queef Odormann, CatTeeth Schuster, Eddie Schultz, and that Maddow fellow.
Hopefully whatever healthcare bill that gets ramrodded through next month won't give more free healthcare to illegal aliens and pay for abortions on the taxpayers dime, but if it will pay for sand removal from far-leftist manginas, I'd support it.

Was there a news story here that I missed? All I see is a repeat of the Colber report. I don't agree with Beck, but the president was in fact, very quick to indict a white police officer for arresting his black friend even though he admitted he didn't have the facts. That certainly sounds racist to me.

you people who say beck has good arugements must not have graduated from high school i love being american but most americans are clueless uttering fools like yourself craig

Glen Beck is a racist. Rush Limbaugh is a racist. Sean Hannity is a racist. This is the last swan song of the "angry white man." Thank God and God Bless America!!!! Don't give up hope. America is a beautiful country and good Americans just need to stick together. White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, etc. We can do it!!!

People like Glen Beck fan the flame of hate. Companies that sponsor him on the web and on TV (e.g. GoToMyPc) should be held accountable for the consequence.

  • coolz 2 years ago

But it is ok for a black man to call whitey racist.

Shame on them, this is how they tear a good person down, thugology is now our 'new' governments way of dealing with decent people that bravely put forth the truth. It won't stop me from watching the Glenn Beck show but it will help me to choose more wisely who I do business with.

Beck is a racist which should be enough to make ALL his sponsors leave, those that don't, what is their problem? I can't listen to Beck for more that 3 minutes before I want to water board him for the truth. He is such a creep but more of a concern than that is who are these misguided people listening to this moron. Who is listening to this and thinking it is close to truth? I guess those with such a poor education that they can't reason and investigate for themselves. A simple fact check would show that beck is full of himself and not a fact one. He is a disgusting excuse for a human and should be taken off the public airwaves. Get smart people, let this creep fade away.

Steve, What has/does Glenn Beck lie(d) about that gets your panties so twisted? Please enlighten us with SPECIFICALLY what really bothers YOU (without using parroted democrat talking points glommed from left-wing websites like Daily KOS or HuffPo)? If you can supply any credible links or videos that back up your claims of "racism", that would be swell!
PS: Relax there, Tiger. No need to "torture" people on your TV that aggravate you just because you disagree with them politically. There are excellent meds available now for people that can't control their emotions.

Glenn Beck, limbaugh, Coulter, and the whole bunch are political entertainers, who knows if they're racist--who knows what they really think and believe. they get paid good money to make people angry. They've even created a cottage industry: The Daily Show and Colbert Report, where the truly thoughtful and informed can at least get a laugh from cable news antics.

Glenn Beck is just a guy who is too dumb to remember his opinion from a year or two back. Jon Stewart is great at showing how Beck was an advocate for an idea a few years ago when it was a "Republican idea", and will now bash the same idea when it is brought to the floor by a Democrat. These guys on Fox News are all about going against whatever the Democrats stand for, whether it contradicts their own personal opionion or now. They may not say it the way Rush did, but they all just want Obama to fail and will do whatever they can to make it happen. Too bad they don't have our country's best interest at heart.
