Video: Snoop Dogg, Rev. Al Sharpton wish Michael Jackson happy birthday, speak of influence

Snoop Dogg and Reverend Al Sharpton were at the second annual birthday celebration for Michael Jackson that took place yesterday at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York. The event is organized by Spike Lee who worked with the iconic performer. The performer would have turned fifty-two. Fans and everyone around the world who knew Jackson celebrated his life in various ways. Many fans posted messages to the King of Pop all day on Twitter. In fact, there were two topics that trended all day related to the star's birthday.

As time goes on, there will be more organized events such as these, because there is a serious need for outlets in which the fans can get together and celebrate the life of a star who has impacted the lives of so many not just by his music, but by his example of humanitarianism.

Snoop Dogg said of the event and Jackson's influence on him and the entire world: "His music, his spirit represented love and peace around the whole world. He influenced me and what I do. I am showing my love and respect and paying homage to a great artist who meant so much to music and people in general." He went on to say: "Right now it is about Michael Jackson and his birthday. Keeping his spirit alive. They gave me a glove. I'm going to take this to the house."

Reverend Al Sharpton said of Jackson: "I think that Michael Jackson is more than just a pop artist that left us. He was a cultural icon. He broke down barriers, and I said when I spoke at his funeral, that if it wasn't for Michael, I don't think a lot of people around the world would have gotten more comfortable with black music. I knew Michael well, and he was a much much more intelligent person than he is given credit for. He knew what he was doing and he did it by perfecting his art.  No one has beat him commercially, and there has not been anyone to make the same impact. I think it is appropriate that we come every year to celebrate his birthday because his life has a lot of significance for those of us who knew him, and lived at a time when he impacted the world."
