Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin is rising rapidly at SeaWorld Orlando, where it's scheduled to open on May 24. The ride takes guests quite literally into the penguins' world in a way that's much more personal than looking through the windows of the old exhibit.
That experience extends to giving visitors an idea of what the real Antarctica is like, with its snowy, frozen expanses and its harsh, unpredictable environment. The new SeaWorld Orlando ride incorporates the look, feel, and even sounds of real thing.
Click the video toward the bottom of this article to hear from SeaWorld Orlando Creative Director Brian Morrow as he explains what goes into creating the story behind this attraction to immerse riders in the experience. That story comes through in every detail, including the carefully crafted "ice" that will convince you you're in a frigid environment even in the middle of the Florida summer.
Look carefully as you walk around the giant glaciers to see little details, like hidden animal prints. There are big details, too, like the image of the mother and baby penguin you can see in the photo at the top of this page.
You'll see plenty of real and animated penguins inside of the ride. Check out this article on the animation process. If you'd like to learn more about the very unique ride vehicles, go on to this article.
