Shiloh Pepin, who was also known as the mermaid girl died yesterday from complications with pneumonia. Pepin lived in Maine, was born with mermaid syndrome, and was not expected to live more than a few days, but lived until she was 10 years old.
Just earlier this week Shiloh’s mother said, “She’s a tough little thing.”
Pepin was well known around the world as the mermaid girl after she appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and documentary about her life and disease appeared on TLC. Shiloh could have had a surgery to separate her legs, but they grew together with major blood vessels that prevented the operation from being successful.
Shiloh Pepin was in fifth grade, and had many students around the nation following her on Facebook. Several Utah students that were about her age made comments on her page as well.
