Video shared on Facebook shows puppy suffering through ear docking

A video being shared on Facebook shows a puppy suffering though ear docking, then being chained, while children can be heard in the background.

While the American Veterinarian Medical Association, also referred to as AVMA, has stated docking ears or tails of dogs when it is for cosmetic purposes only should not be not be allowed, some private individuals do this to their dogs.

The following statement, which can also be seen here, makes clear the thoughts of the AVMA:

"The AVMA opposes ear cropping and tail docking of dogs when done solely for cosmetic purposes. The AVMA encourages the elimination of ear cropping and tail docking from breed standards."

As docking of any sort should be done by a licensed veterinarian and with the pet under anesthesia, viewers of the video may be outraged. If someone is outraged, perhaps that reader will be moved to file a complaint.

The person in the video might be recognized by some. Who would feel it is okay to do this to any creature in this manner?

While some groups feel docking of ears and tails is important for certain dogs as this helps with breed distinction, others feel it should be stopped everywhere.

The American Kennel Club stated the following about docking tails and ears:

"We recognize ear cropping and tail docking, as prescribed in certain breed standards, are acceptable practices integral to defining and preserving breed character, enhancing good health, and preventing injuries," according to the AKC.

While readers may not agree that docking of tails or ears should be discontinued, do they agree that this should be done by a licensed vet rather then by someone without training being video taped in the presence of children, if they were indeed there?

Someone viewing the video of the puppy having it's ears cropped shared the following statement with this writer:

In the video, a man is in the middle of cropping off a part of a puppy's ear after a friend suggests him to. Afterwards, they pour a dark blue liquid on the puppy's ear, probably to act as some sort of anti-bacterial. They don't wrap the puppy's ears and tie the puppy to something. There are also children heard in the background.

This person went on to say the dog appeared to be chained to stairs near some rubble. There is no veterinarian in the video and no evidence of anesthesia for this particular dog.

The video and some comments about the incident are on Facebook along with a petition that can be signed online.
