Thursday, police released 125 photos that Rodney Alcala kept in a storage unit and they believe that these people may be victims and have asked for the public’s help in identifying people from the photos.
Last month Rodney Alcala, 66, was convicted of murdering a child and four women between November 1977 and June 1979. The jury recommended the death sentence. Alcala appeared on the TV show The Dating Game in 1978.
Alcala has been linked to dozens of disappearances and murders since the 1970s. Alcala was convicted in Orange County, California. The photos were found in a storage unit in Seattle, Washington. The police suspect that Alcala may have been responsible for at least one death in New York. The photos could have been taken anywhere in the country, including Utah. California officials have asked that people around the country look at the photos and see if they know anything about the people in the photos.
Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said this about the photos: "We balanced the privacy concerns of those depicted in the decision to release these pictures. Although we hope that the people depicted are not victims, we believe the release may help solve some cold cases and bring closure to victims' families."
The photos which can be seen in the video below are mostly of women and children, but there are a few men in the photos. Alcala fancied himself a photographer and the police believe that these photos may be trophies of his victims. If anyone knows anything about the people in the photos, they have been asked to contact the police immediately at the numbers below.
