Video: Sean Hannity continues to advocate myth that ACORN getting eight billion in federal funding

Sean Hannity has been covering ACORN extensively.

The new prostitution videos against ACORN have certainly given the organization a black eye.  Fox News has been leading the charge against ACORN and have succeeded in forcing the organization to launch an independent investigation.

While the ACORN story does deserve some coverage people like Sean Hannity are misleading the public on the scope and magnitude of the problem.  In the clips below Sean Hannity claims ACORN will receive trillions of dollars in funding which was likely just a slip of the tongue for Hannity.  What was not an accident was Hannity's claim in the second video that ACORN was due to receive eight billion dollars in funding.

Hannity likely gets his eight billion dollar number from the same source Rep. Michelle Bachmann cited in making the same claim.  The problem is Bachmann's claim was declared "false" by the non-partisan group PolitiFact.  Bachmann and Hannity are claiming ACORN would have "free acess" to federal funds when in reality they would have to win a number of competitive grants they have no conceivable chance of obtaining in order to get the money.  The non-partisan group FactCheck.org has also dispelled the rumor that ACORN will be receiving these billions of dollars.

In addition one of Hannity's panelists, Juan Williams, boldly corrects Hannity on Hannity's claim that the ACORN story is huge and in need of extensive coverage.  Williams notes that the scope of ACORN is actually miniscule in comparison to the kind of scandals going on with Blackwater during the Bush administration.  Of course Hannity and Fox News never really gave the kind of attention to scandals at Blackwater and Haliburton that they are now giving to ACORN.

That $8 billion meme will not die. The pseudo-conservatives have done too good a job of spreading the lie.

They can apply for the pool of funds which are there in the bill. There is no chance they are getting a dime now so the story is lame and mute.

BREAKING NEWS...........The House just voted to COMPLETELY defund the ongoing criminal organization ACORN by an overwhelming vote of
    345 to 75.

Why doesn't Hannity abide by his "guilt by association" game being that he promoted that Stanford guy who stole people's money? He associates and praises Ted Nugent who said at a concert that Hilliary and Obama could "suck his guns". He associates with Oliver North who in his own diary admitted to knowing that drugs were being sold to fund the Contras. Hannity will promote any myth that promotes his positions and he will ignore any truth that enlightens people that he is often wrong.

Sorry to burst your bubble, WWGBD, but the application deadline passed in July and ACORN didn't apply for a penny of stimulus money.

Libertarian says: "Sorry to burst your bubble, WWGBD"

Sorry Lib, We burst the ACORN bubble! Chalk another one up for the good guys. I would bring up an old symbol of good and bad but I would be labeled a racist. So I will not say the guys with the white hats are the winners as they have always been.

GoldenAE, first, here is one of Ted's guitars.

He won't be an easy victim. And isn't that the point?

Remember too, Ted is an environmental steward, a philanthropist, and a great American. He has employed many many people allowing them to be productive citizens and protected many acres of land to be productive. Ted is the definition of the American dream.
If people like Ted Nugent and Burt Rutan were our role models America would be the world leader again in every aspect.

Get a little perspective, WWGBD: According to the best numbers out there, ACORN got a little over $50 million in federal money over the past 10 years (most of that under Bush, remember).

Do the math: That averages out to about $100,000 per state per year - hardly big numbers in the federal budget.

And they said all along they were not going after that stimulus money; didn't ned it and didn't want to deal with the paperwork.

You're fixating on the wrong targets.

    @ libertarian:

YOU are fixating on the wrong issue. Who gives a good gawd dam# about how much ACORN got??!

The ISSUE is that a supposed public organization set up to help impoverished, or low income families get housing... and organization that has ties to Senators and Congressmen in the legislature, an organization that has POLITICAL and policy ties to the PRESIDENT (Admitted by the President)
IS GIVING ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC ACROSS THE NATION, TO COMMIT FEDERAL CRIMES! Including tax fraud, falsification of government documents, money laundering, prostitution, illegal import of CHILDREN into the US for the EXPRESS PURPOSE of using them for the child SEX SLAVE TRADE! Duh!

That's the point. Not the freaking money.
    Doc

If that's the point, Doc, you go after the employees doing such things.

Although I'll bet dollars to donuts that even as screwed up as ACORN is (and it is, for certain), prosecutors will have a really hard time finding anyone other than they undercover pseudo-journalists who got anything like that advice.

But in the big picture, this is just another distraction for serious policy discussions about health care, the economy and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
