Rush Limbaugh today added his own opinion to the H1N1 vaccine debate. Many have resisted government efforts to have as many people as possible take the vaccine to prevent an outbreak. Some have claimed the vaccine could be harmful despite the claims of the CDC and other medical experts that it is safe. Not surprisingly Limbaugh did not take a positive view of the government effort to distribute and administer the vaccine.
In response to the urgings of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to take the vaccine Limbaugh bluntly says "screw you Miss Sebelius." Limbaugh then goes on to say he will not take the vaccine simply because she says he "must" take it.
Secretary Sebelius certainly has been pushing the vaccine in recent interviews. Today she tried to quelm worries about the vaccine by saying it is made the same way as flu vaccines in the past and that it is "safe and secure." In addition Sebelius has "strongly urged" parents to have their kids take the vaccine as she states young people are at higher risk from the H1N1 virus. However there is no record of Sebellius telling people they "must take" the vaccine. Various headlines on Sebelius contain this reference but I have found no actual quote of that reference Instead the various quotes from Sebelious seem to "urge" people to take the vaccine but no demands are made.

You don't get it. If MOST people are "vaccinated" and it works as promised, then the spread will not happen. Then the few who do not get it will be fine. And not have to take the risk of the shot.

I don't mind Rush winding up his ignorant masses with lies about Obama or Congress, but instructing them not to get vaccinated against a potentially deadly flu is just downright irresponsible and dangerous. Then again if his 20 million followers are wiped out America can only be the better for it.

There are three legitimate reasons for not taking the vaccine: Mercury, Formaldehyde, and Squalene. I find it woeful that the legitimate debate about the safety vaccinations in this country is being ignored under the guise of some false left/right paradigm. This continues to be the typical style of debate that we've had in this country for the last fifteen years: it's either black or white with little evidence ever presented from either side. The first 20 ingredients of the vaccine are almost more deadly than those that make up cigarettes and those are forced to have warning labels. You really want to take an untested vaccine that says "well the government says it's okay" without really looking at the data? Does anyone remember the response to Katrina with FEMA? These vaccines are about making money, not about the public health especially when you consider that the swine flu is no more deadly than the regular flu.
Take vitamin c, get exercise, get plenty of rest.
Finally, a selection pressure against conspiracy theorists.
I love it when people choose not to be vaccinated because of some vast conspiracy, it just proves that Darwin was right. I know most of the anti-vaccine movement seems to be composed of public figures, cause you know, PhD's just don't get it.

Just silly--actually it seems ALL FOR PROFIT and NOT actually for our safety. Even Obama's daughters are NOT getting the H1N1 and MANY are running to get this vaccine whether or not they need to, whether or not it will cause you MORE problems, whether or not it's been thoroughly tested.
And why were the Pharmas producing the vaccine relieved of legal liability BEFORE the release of the vaccine???
If you or a family member have an adverse reacion or death you cannot sue the Pharma Co.s nor the Government. Even though they are the ones telling you to take the vaccine. Cute and convenient and highly profitable for them with virtually NO downside risk.
The ONLY losers will be the public if there are adverse reactions.
Sure, you CAN listen to Jenny McCarthy or Glenn Beck and take their advice on whether or not you should get a flu vaccine. You CAN listen to their completely unscientific and intuitive insight and agree with them. You CAN do that and more.
And maybe after all that you can also ask your doctor what he thinks.
You know, because he just might have a more informed opinion than anyone else. I hear they go to some sort of Medical School for that.

Are YOU a Doc Cash? Do you know how many are going to take the vaccine themselves?? People who have serious preconditions probably should take the vaccine. The rest should rely on Cash, Dean, Walrus and the rest of the examiner Liberal hot squad to set them straight.

This Vaccine is NOT made in the same way as the regular Flu Vaccine. The regular flu vaccine is made with a DEAD sample of the Flu virus, the H1N1 Vaccine is made with a LIVE sample of the Swine flu. The CDC has already put out warnings that it is NOT SAFE. Do not give this to your children, and do not take it. It is not safe.

Chris, I am not aware of a single vaccine that does not contain a live sample of the virus for which you are being vaccinated against. A vaccine works, in a nutshell, by introducing a severely weakened virus into your body. The virus attempts to establish itself in your body, and is quickly destroyed in its weakened condition. This is why the flu vaccine, or any other vaccine, sometimes gives you mild symptoms of that which you are being vaccinated against. Were the virus dead upon introduction to your body, it would not do anything at all, and therefore not initiate an immune response.
Your immune system, having then dealt with that type of virus, will immediately respond to and destroy any virus of that same strain that makes its way into you in the future; you are vaccinated.
H1N1 is simply a different strain of influenza... the flu... than we are used to seeing making the rounds of the population, and the normal everyday flu vaccine was modified accordingly.

A virus is a Protein "Shell" with "coiled" RNA inside. Sometimes tRNA. On the protein coat are other "chemical markers" that allow the virus to attach to the Cell wall and by various methods inject the viral DNA(RNA) into the organelles of the cell. Not every virus has the same vector of reproduction within a cell..but suffice it to say that the cells'"resources" are utilized to reproduce the virus. At the "Appropriate" time the cell ruptures and many more viruses are released into our bodies.

Vaccines used with influenza have a long History. H1N1 is different..indeed they keep telling us so. So it's Not the same exactly. So far it has been mild.
onoz, the nasal mist has live virus NOT recommended for Preganat Moms I believe. The injectable version is supposed to not contain live viruses, and thus be safer for those expecting

Right on jaime. Anyone making an educated decision on whether or not to take this thing has every right to do so or to not. I just get fired up when I see folks parroting talking points from media entertainers. Don't get em wrong tho, that's not directed at you. I think folks that are in a condition to be worrying about not dealing well with H1N1 should likely be more concerned with going ahead and getting the vaccination than what trace elements etc may be in the vaccine; they certainly aren't the healthiest things to be exposed to in quantity over time, but certainly a lesser burden than dealing with the full blown illness. BTW I agree with you on the bit about Pharma & lack of culpability/responsibility. It's ridiculous.

onoz, vaccines can be made with either live attenuated or dead viri.
A perfect example is the polio vaccines: Salk is dead virus; Sabin is live.
And the fact that the live can cause polio in some people is the reason they no longer give the Sabin as the first polio vaccination in the USA - once you have the Salk shot, you are safe to have Sabin boosters later on.
The infamous anthrax vaccine has NO virus - it is based strictly on certain proteins.

This is a short list for those who wish to look up info on the"net". (So we don't get caught in the larger Pharma NET.)
There are two basic types of FLU viruses: A and B. From what I understand most is A. H1N1 is an A.
H1N1 Seasonal A
H1N1 Novel (Swine) A
H2N3 Seasonal A
B Seasonal
The regular flu Vaccine is for H1N1 Seasonal A I believe. The H1N1 Swine A is the NEW (Novel) one that comes in 1) A nasal mist with live virus. 2) a shot with as Jake said an attenuated (dead) vaccine. Both of these are NEW.
CDC is reporting that 97% of cases seen now are SWINE A. about 3% are the 'Regular" flu. The regular flu season isn't really here yet.
Remember that upwards of 36,000 people die every year because of REGULAR Flu each year. The mist seems to NOT be good for: Pregnant Women, Kids under 10 and Immuno-compromised people. Thus any Health care professionals should not take the mist because they care for those patients: Transplant patients,infants AIDs etc.
